Competitions

Well done to winners of the 'Ullapool's plastic bag free' design competition

Well done to Helen Meek of Dundonnell for the eye catching winning design for the fairly traded cotton bags which RoWAN is distributing round all the households in Ullapool.

‘Thin bin’ competition

We compared the bin weights, from each household, during 8 weeks in autumn 2007 against the same period in 2006 to try and find the households that have managed to reduce their waste by the most. Unfortunately despite the preliminary selection of potential winners we have decided not to award any prizes for the ‘thin bin’ competition because, after a more detailed weights analysis of the households involved, it is not possible to select clear winners for each community.

Spring 07 saw the launch of our Ross-shire wide photographic competition – Focus on Waste – and our area-based composting competition. Each had categories for both school age entrants and adults and there were prizes for ‘composting novices’ and old hands in this field.

Compost competitions were held in Lochcarron & Alness. Winners for Lochcarron were David Gunn, John MacPherson & Vikki Stonebridge and for Alness Jack Bain and Roger Megson - all received garden tokens. Also well done to the 2 people who prepared compost in Ullapool.

The 'Return the Questionnaire' draw was won by Mr & Mrs Wilkins from Lochcarron who chose their 'meal out' prize to be the Plockton hotel.
